Andy Vajirasarn

Andy Vajirasarn is a second generation Thai-American who started studying French from the age of 12 and Japanese from the age of 19. At UCLA, Vajirasarn studied French and Japanese, obtaining a BA in French. After six years of teaching English, French, and Japanese in Japan, he returned to California to obtain an MA in Teaching Foreign Languages (French and Japanese) at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. For the 2001-2002 academic year, he taught and researched in France as an English teaching assistant under the Fulbright/French Government-sponsored Assistant de Langue Vivant program. He is currently living, teaching, and researching in Japan as adjunct faculty at Soka University, Soka Women's College, and Nippon Engineering College of Hachoji. (His current research interest is in SLA with international students in Japan studying at an intensive Japanese language program.)

Short description of the presentation

This paper describes the Japanese L2 (English L1) author's efforts in designing, piloting, analyzing, and rewriting a Japanese language test in the French L1 context, using an authentic material (extracts from a magazine articles).
